Since my last post, I have been taking in more local sights including several government and historical buildings. The gardens here are beautiful and I even caught a few couples taking their wedding pictures in Fuxing Park. Stacy is currently in China training the bar staffs of Blu Sushi (a new sushi and martini bar) and several five-star hotels in Shanghai and she’s sharing her three-week Asian adventures with her Van Gogh Vodka fans and family.

So far I have been wandering the city taking in everything. It is much colder than I thought it would be. America really has no idea how wonderful this city is. It is rich in culture. This means that, from today until 6:55 p.m., Dec. 22, I’ll be obsessing over my two favorite party accessories: food and drink! Today is December 5, 2007. It’s a Wednesday, it’s the second day of Hanukkah and, according to our friends on the Internet “ninja lovers around the world will be celebrating the fourth annual Day of the Ninja this December 5.”

Prohibition EndsFor most, today may seem just like any other day (unless you are a ninja), but it actually marks one of America’s most important historical moments: Repeal Day. On December 5, 1933, the U.S. ratified the 21st Amendment, repealing Prohibition and the dreaded 18th Amendment, which in 1919, made the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors illegal. Imagine nearly 14 years without a cocktail! Thanks to moonshine, speakeasies and bootleggers, most of the country found a way to satisfy their cravings and many classic cocktails were born. (more…)
