Eat Your Pumpkin Pie and Drink it Too

With Halloween behind us, Thanksgiving just around the corner and 2008 just 46 days away, it suddenly occurred to me that we have officially entered the “holiday season.” Fortunately, the weather has cooled to a reasonable fall temperature (it’s dropping into the 40s tonight in Orlando) and all of the scents and sights of the season have started to miraculously appear.

For instance, I have recently been craving pumpkin because, this year, it just seems to be EVERYWHERE! Of course Halloween and all its annual pumpkin worship was the natural first cause for my attraction to this festive fruit, but that was just the beginning. Now, everywhere I go, everything I see, everything I smell - it’s all pumpkin! Pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin scented candles, pumpkin pie shampoo, lotion and lip gloss…and then, just when I was sure there could be no other pumpkin concoction developed, Stacy appeared in my office doorway with a sample of her new pumpkin pie martini!

It’s a terrific example of why I love this classic fall treat - a hint of sweetness combined with the spices of the season and just the right amount of pumpkin perfection. I can think of no better way to fall back into autumn than whipping up this delightful cocktail dessert and sharing it with friends (on the porch with my pumpkin scented candle of course!).

Mix 1 oz. Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka, ½ oz. Licor 43, 1 oz. pumpkin liqueur, ½ oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream, a splash butterscotch schnapps and ice. Shake, then pour and sprinkle with ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice. For added effect, rim the glass with fresh lemon juice and crushed graham crackers.

Cheers!

[…] In fact, since it’s Pumpkin Pie, you might as well drink this as your dessert! The recipe comes from the folks over at Van Gogh Vodka who naturally recommend their very own vanilla flavored vodka as the base, but any vanilla-flavored […]

The restaurant where I work carries almost your entire line of vodkas… most of them are surprisingly good (double-espresso, pineapple, coconut). Others leave a bit to be desired (pomegranate).

Still, nothing sits the fence between summer and winter cocktails like a Double-Espresso-tini: 2.5-oz VanGogh Double-espresso, 1.0 Starbucks coffee liqueur, dash of Stoli Vanil… Shake, strain and serve with a twist of lemon.

Anyway, it’s 36-degrees and snowing here in central PA. And one question I have is why is VanGogh nixxing the synth-cork stoppers??? Finally, a vodka company with enough class to cork their product… until now. I guess it’s back to those stupid aluminum caps whose threads strip so easily and whose collars are constantly cutting my hands. Gee, thanks guys. =(

    sc’Que -

Thank you for your comment. It’s always great to hear from our friends in the industry. The Double Espresso is a big favorite and I will be sure to share your recipe with Stacy, our bartender. I hope you don’t mind if we choose to go with our Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka instead of those other guys. I wish I had better news for you regarding the caps, but that is the direction we are heading. However, I will be sure to share your concerns with the appropriate people here. After all, that’s the point of this blog…to hear from our friends and get their thoughts and opinions.

Please send us more of your favorite recipes and thanks again for being a Van Gogh Vodka fan.
    Cheers!
